Dota 2: How to Deal with Ursa in Patch 7.25a

Here are a few tips you can use whenever you have to play against Ursa.

The newest  Dota 2 patch landed just a couple of days ago. Needless to say, it changed the meta a little bit because some of the “forgotten” heroes got buffed a lot. Even though Ursa was picked from time to time, the hero went through a massive change and now looks better than ever. In fact, it was so good at the beginning of the patch that IceFrog had to release 7.25a just to nerf some things about her and a few more heroes.

Despite that, Ursa still feels like one of the strongest carries in this patch. That said, let’s take a look at some tips that you can use for whenever you have to lane against this hero.

Always try to kite

Ursa is a different carry than most other heroes in this role. Instead of doing a lot of sustain damage, this hero is all about the burst. In fact, a well-fed Ursa can “100-0” you in just a matter of seconds.

That’s why one of the best things that you can do to avoid that is kite the hero. Although this is easier said than done, there are many heroes and items in Dota 2 that allow you to do just that. For example, Venomancer is a very popular hero that’s used against Ursa frequently. Even though he can die very fast, his poisons and slows are a nightmare to play against, especially when Ursa has a Blink Dagger. Needless to say, pretty much any Ursa player goes for this item because it’s really hard to play without it.

Apart from kiting heroes, there are also different items that you can use. Force Staff is definitely the most popular one but there are other options out there, such as:

  • Eul’s Scepter of Divinity
  • Spirit Vessel
  • Hurricane Pike

Stomping Ursa in the lane

One of the best ways in which you can be sure that Ursa won’t be a problem is if you win the lane against her. Unlike other carries, Ursa is not really the best comeback hero because she tends to farm relatively slow. So, unless the hero snowballs, it’s not really that scary.

Having said that, winning a lane against Ursa is easier said than done, especially in this patch. As you know, 7.25 buffed Fury Swipes and Overpower, which means that Ursa is now even stronger than before during the laning stage.

Nevertheless, this doesn’t mean that the hero is invincible. On the contrary, if your team picks two ranged heroes, Ursa can have a very hard lane. There are many combinations that can work here, so experiment until you find something you like

Pick a strong counter

The last tip is pretty self-explaining, but still, we decided to cover it as well. One of the best ways in which you can be sure that you will at least stand a chance against this hero is to pick a hero that counters him. Unfortunately, there are not that many heroes that are actually good against this hero.

Perhaps one of the best choices is Phantom Lancer. As long as there aren’t any counters for him, PL can rip through Ursa very easily due to his illusions. Speaking of illusions, Naga Siren is also one of those heroes that can easily dominate the game against Ursa. Apart from the illusions, this hero is also incredibly strong because it has Ensnare, which can keep the bear in place.
