While it would be prudent to celebrate International Women’s Day on its upcoming March 8 date, Gen.G, the Korean multi-esport organization owned by KSV eSports Korea Inc., will take it a step further–actually 30 more steps. Gen.G announced Tuesday that not only will the organization be celebrating on March 8 but will also run “a full slate of activities during the entirety of the month aimed at empowering and investing in women in gaming.”
The organization will lean on Bumble, the women-first dating and networking app, to help it highlight women in the gaming community through a variety of activities including charity live streams and virtual events focused on Gen.G’s first-ever all-women esports team, Team Bumble.
Also, U.S. Bank is joining in and will use its presence to help spotlight professional career paths in gaming for women, while at the same time “rewarding and bringing together community members.” Urban Outfitters will add its voice to the celebration by launching, in conjunction with Gen.G, “Work From Home,” a series of livestreamed workshops focused “on the intersection of gaming and culture.”
Starting on March 7, alongside its partners, Gen.G will conduct a series of streams in support of Girls Who Code, an organization focused on promoting STEM education for young women ages 13 and 17.
Helping to amplify the message of women’s inclusion in the gaming and esports spaces, Bumble and Gen.G will create short-form content and multiple live stream events, including streams that show the gaming prowess of women from Team Bumble in both Fortnite and Valorant. The two will also be looking for another Team Bumble content creator through its live-stream show, “The Next Big Buzz,” that will see contestants compete in a series of challenges to win a creator contract from Gen.G.
The new content and programming starts on March 7 and will run through the end of the month.
To compliment the celebration’s new gaming and game-show type content, Gen.G will offer a series of workshops that will be presented by Urban Outfitters. The first workshop on March 14 at 3 p.m. PST will focus on Music & Gaming while the second workshop will stream on March 15 at 4 p.m. PST, discussing Beauty & Gaming. Urban Outfitters will also provide furnishings for the on-air studio at the Gen.G Los Angeles-based campus.
