Cyberpunk 2077 PS4 and Xbox refunds denied by Sony and Microsoft

CD Projekt has offered free refunds for the console versions of Cyberpunk 2077 but it doesn’t seem as if Sony and Microsoft are quite so keen.

Just four days after it first came out publisher and developer CD Projekt were forced to make an apology about the state of Cyberpunk 2077 on the base models of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with a promise to honour refunds until December 21. The only problem is they don’t seem to have checked that with Sony or Microsoft.

Numerous reports are coming in from fans on social media that they are being denied refunds, with Sony apparently asking customers to wait until CD Projekt releases patches to fix the game – something which is not expected to be complete until at least February.

Sony has always been infamous for its unwillingness to offer digital refunds under almost any circumstance but Microsoft has apparently also been reticent in this case, with many reporting that their refund requests have been denied.

CD Projekt’s advice was to use the refund system of PSN or Xbox or, if you have a boxed copy, to first try to get a refund at the store where you bought the game. If not, customers are told to email [email protected] before December 21.

What seems to be especially frustrating about this situation is that some people are getting refunds, including from Sony, even while many are not.

It’s not clear what logic, if any, is deciding who does or doesn’t get a refund but one theory is that it’s dependent on whether you’ve played the game or been instantly put off by the headlines and never actually started it – although merely downloading it seems to be enough for some customer services staff.
