Elden Ring Calculator Makes Slinging Spells A Lot Easier

Elden Ring provides players with a lot of options to build out their characters, and while a lot of folks choose the more melee-focused builds, don’t think that means magic is any less powerful. Mages in Elden Ring can be extremely effective, given the right tools, but determining which tools to use can be a real problem.

Spellcrafting can be complicated. Besides just looking at a staff or seal and determining what stat scales the most (usually either Intelligence or Faith), most catalysts also provide bonus damage depending on the type of spell you use. This can make determining which staff or seal maximizes your damage quite challenging.

It used to be that players either had to break out a spreadsheet or just use everything and figure out their best options through trial and error, but now there’s a far simpler method. The Elden Ring Casting Tool Comparator (as spotted by Kotaku) provides Tarnished with a simple, easy-to-use calculator that determines what catalyst will maximize your spell damage.

All you have to do is type in your character's stats, select the upgrade level for your staff or seal, and then select the class of spells you're wielding. The list on the right will then automatically show your best damage-dealing option. You can also account for the bonus damage certain catalysts provide to show the true in-game damage.

This is an incredibly useful tool for all Elden Ring mages. Just as an example, my Intelligence-based caster is currently using the Meteorite staff as it has S-tier scaling with Intelligence. However, the Meteorite staff cannot be upgraded, so other staffs will eventually out-pace the Meteorite staff in terms of damage. By using this calculator, we see that the Carian Glintblade Staff actually deals more damage than the Meteorite Staff once it's upgraded to +8 or +9, depending on your total Intelligence.

But that changes back to the Meteorite Staff if you use mostly Gravity-based spells because the Meteorite Staff gives bonus damage to Gravity spells. Like I said, magic is complicated, but this calculator makes it easy.
