Fortnite Chapter 3 will be coming to a conclusion towards the beginning of next month on December 3, 2022. The grand finale is going to be an event called Fracture during which the game will be transitioning into Chapter 4, much to the surprise of players who had been expecting another season worth of content in Chapter 3.
The news comes from The Game Awards which noted on Twitter that “Fortnite's Chapter 3 Finale Event will be entitled Fracture and run live on December 3, 2022 at 4:00 PM ET.” The developer behind Fortnite, Epic Games, has not yet revealed any concrete details about Fracture, but some sort of cinematic event in addition to a new set of gameplay mechanics and a brand new map should be a fairly safe bet.
The official announcement was made immediately before the final match of the Fortnite Championship Series Invitational 2022, an image appearing during the livestream which explained how Fracture would mark the end of the current stage of gameplay, Chapter 3. The outcome of this tournament remains in question, there currently being a $1 million prize pool up for grabs.
“The Fortnite Championship Series Invitational 2022 in Raleigh, North Carolina, United States of America is just around the corner and marks the return to an official Fortnite in-person experience,” the official description reads. “On November 12 and 13, celebrate some of the best duos in the world competing on the Fortnite Championship Series Invitational Stage for a share of the $1,000,000 prize pool!”
Chapter 3 represents the shortest ever gameplay stage in Fortnite, Chapters 1 and 2 featuring ten and eight seasons, respectively. The reason for pushing through Chapter 3 so quickly is currently a subject of speculation within the community, some players pointing to the upcoming launch of Unreal Engine 2.0 as a possible catalyst.
