Gotham Knights developer may have secret second game

A new job listing may suggest that WB Games Montréal has another project in development and some already hope it’s not another Batman game.

You would think after Gotham Knights, the latest Batman video game, was finally announced after years of rumours and hearsay, Warner Bros. wouldn’t have any more secret’s left for a while.

But it appears that isn’t entirely the case, as Gotham Knights studio WB Games Montréal seem to have a second, unannounced title in the works as well.

This comes from a recent job listing on the studio’s official website and it’s for a senior gameplay/animation programmer who will work on ‘a new IP, AAA title.’

The studio’s last major release was Batman: Arkham Origins in 2013, having only helped developed DLC for Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham Knight since then.

Between the years of silence and the fact that WB Games Montréal is a relatively big studio with over 300 employees, it’s not unreasonable to think that it has two AAA projects in development at the same time.

In fact, back in 2018, Osama Dorias, a senior game designer at WB Games Montréal, who is currently the lead designer on Gotham Knights, appeared on the Humans of Gaming podcast and said that the studio was working on a couple of projects.

The only bit of concrete information that he shared was that one of them was an open world game set in the DC universe, most likely referring to Gotham Knights.

There’s nothing to suggest that the second project is another DC game but, given the studio has only worked on DC games, it wouldn’t be surprising if that was the case.

Judging by some responses from fans, there are those who hope that it’s not another Batman title and that it instead focus on a different DC superhero.

Though considering Gotham Knights is set in a world where Batman has apparently died, maybe Warner Bros. wants another game where the Caped Crusader himself is front and centre to make up for it?

Gotham Knights will release for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in 2021.
