Following Halo Infinite’s delay, a new rumour suggests things are messier than we thought and the Xbox One version could end up cancelled.
Despite all the hype surrounding it, Halo Infinite has rather quickly gone from being a hotly anticipated title to a somewhat disastrous one.
Its big gameplay reveal drew criticisms for its graphics, which didn’t seem indicative of the capabilities of next gen hardware, and then Microsoft decided to delay the game till 2021, denying the Xbox Series X its biggest launch title.
Now, a new rumour suggests that the situation behind the scenes might be even worse, by saying that Microsoft is considering cancelling the Xbox One version.
The claim comes from Microsoft insider Sponger on ResetEra, who also says that the game may be delayed until as late as 2022, writing ‘It’s pretty messy up there with decisions but they are convinced that they need to make [the] best Halo game ever.’
He adds, ‘Current version of Halo Infinite on Xbox One S is nowhere near 1080p (even lower than 900p) and is having serious asset loading issues (much worse that you have seen on PC demo).’
Sponger has previously leaked information about role-playing game Avowed, so obviously has some close contacts at Microsoft. He’s also been verified by the forum’s moderators as a reliable source.
According to other reports, Halo Infinite’s development has been problematic due to too much outsourcing and a rift between the developers and marketing.
If this does turn out to be true, it would be quite the blow to Microsoft’s strategy to support both its next gen console and the Xbox One, especially as Halo Infinite was one of the very first games confirmed for both.
Halo Infinite is currently scheduled to release on Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC in 2021.
