How would you like to become a biospeleologist? That's someone who studies the rich ecology found in cave systems. Ever since the Caves & Cliffs update, spelunking in Minecraft has become much more interesting thanks to the inclusion of Lush Caves.
Lush Caves are defined by their abundance of flora and fauna–especially for a cave. Moss, grass, and azalea bushes will cover the ground, while vines, dripleafs, spore blossoms, and glow berries hang from the roof. This is in stark contrast to Drip Rock Caves which mostly have stalagmites and stalactites.
All this life needs water, and Lush Caves typically have a lot of it thanks to underground waterfalls leading to small lakes full of critters. Glow squid, tropical fish, and axolotls of all kinds can be found in those underground lakes, but also more threatening creatures like spiders, zombies, skeletons, creepers, and slimes.
For those looking to dive into caves, keep an eye out for azalea trees. The presence of an azalea tree on the surface usually indicates that there’s a lush cave lurking just below. Dig down (but not too far) and you should find a whole new world with all the adorable axolotls you can hold.
