Mass Effect Legendary Edition pre-load has begun on Xbox, revealing how much free space the remastered collection is going to take up. The anthology will require almost 85 GB of space on Xbox, and roughly 80 GB on PlayStation platforms.
While 84.3 GB may eat into an Xbox’s storage (especially a Series S), this is the total for all three games. If you take into account that Legendary Edition is three enormous games with tons of DLC, the file size is not that big. It’s also much less than required on PC, with the game’s Steam page revealing the anthology will require around 120 GB. All in all, it seems Legendary Edition is double the size of the original trilogy.
The PlayStation file size is slightly different. According to the Twitter account PlayStation Game Size, Legendary Edition will require from 68 to 87 GB depending on where you live, with a 12 GB day one patch on top of that. The update will address some performance and stability issues, hoping to get the game looking its best for release.
Bioware’s Mac Walters already revealed Mass Effect Legendary Edition includes two discs for physical copies of the game. In that case, the first one is probably a data disc that needs to be installed before you can play the trilogy. It is currently unknown if the players will be able to install or download each game separately to free up space.
Sadly, Mass Effect Legendary Edition won’t be getting a physical release in several countries, Russia included. Publisher SoftClub previously confirmed that the game will not be sold physically in the region “by mutual decision of the parties on the basis of commercial considerations.”
Bioware’s three-game remaster anthology will be “forward compatible” with Xbox Series X/S and PS5, allowing the players to experience Commander Shepard’s adventures like never before. Console players can expect up to 120 fps on Xbox Series X, and up to 60 fps on PS5. Moreover, all platforms will offer two different game modes — Quality or Framerate — with the ability to switch between them at any time.
Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is arriving on May 14. The game is currently available for preload on Xbox consoles with pre-load starting on PlayStation on May 12.
