Metal Slug Tactics Delayed To 2023

Sad news for Metal Slug fans. Dotemu has announced Metal Slug Tactics, the turn-based tactics reimagining of the famous run and gun franchise, has been delayed into 2023.

Originally revealed at E3 2021, Metal Slug Tactics stars series heroes Marco, Fio, Tarma, and Eri as they once again try to prevent the evil Donald Morden from taking over the world. Only this time, rather than scrolling to the sides, each level is a square grid and each enemy and ally takes shots in turn. There’s still plenty of supply drops and special weapons to collect, but now each character also sports their own special attacks too.

There’s also plenty of references to the series, too. In a gameplay trailer revealed during Nintendo’s Indie showcase last year, we got to see the team fight a giant cobra tank–the same one present in Metal Slug 2 and Metal Slug X. We can also expect the Metal Slug team to bring their own tanks to the fight, at least according to the trailers.

Dotemu and developer Leikir Studio initially planned to release Metal Slug Tactics on Switch and Steam sometime this year, but it seems like they’ll need a little more time.

"Marco, Eri, Fio, and Tarma are tinkering away to make #MetalSlugTactics as explosive as possible on release, but the squad needs a bit more time in the shop to prepare for the battles ahead," wrote Dotemu. "See you in 2023!"

Delays are just more common these days. In the past few days, we've received delay announcements for River City Girls 2, Marvel's Midnight Suns, and the remade Knights of the Old Republic. Two of those we might never hear from again.

On the plus side, Dotemu has a pretty good track record of releasing quality games. Most recently that was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, a bangin’ beat-'em-up that will send you back to the days of Turtles in Time.
