Nintendo are planning two separate Nintendo Directs this month, according to sources, with the first one being a Nindies special.
There might not be an E3 this year, but it seems as if Nintendo is going to reveal the secrets of it 2020 line-up this month, across two different Nintendo Directs.
According to website Venture Beat the first one will be on Wednesday, 18 March and will be an indie spring showcase, so still not really what fans are waiting for.
It should be filled with new announcements though, given the recent cancellation of GDC, with previous ‘Indie World’ Directs having unveiled games such as Axiom Verge 2 and Golf Story sequel Sports Story.
The real deal though, a Nintendo Direct dedicated to Nintendo’s AAA line-up for the rest of the year, is rumoured to be on Thursday, 26 March.
Nintendo typically announce a new Direct a few days before it’s due to happen, so if we’ve not heard anything about one by next Monday then you’ll know these rumours are duds.
If they do happen this month though it will be the first Nintendo Direct not dedicated to a specific topic or game for six whole months.
As a result, once Animal Crossing: New Horizons comes out on 20 March, Nintendo won’t have a single major game scheduled with a solid release date, which is odd even for them.
There’s never been any explanation, or even theory, as to why they’re suddenly being extra secretive (Nintendo has already said they’re not announcing any new hardware this year) but hopefully we’ll finally get to find out what’s going on by the end of the month.
