The Resident Evil movie reboot is an exciting, upcoming project, which may help to soothe the feelings we have about Paul W.S. Anderson’s original adaptation. The reboot was slated for a 2021 release, however, a specific date has been spotted by an eagle-eyed fan.
On Twitter, one user shared their discovery that pinpoints Johannes Roberts’ reboot release date. The release date was spotted on Constantin Film’s official website, which pegged the Resident Evil movie to release on September 9. The Twitter user mentioned that the movie had already wrapped filming, and confirmed that this was “very likely their target release date.” The production company has since changed the film’s date back to “TBA 2021,” after possibly revealing the release date a little too soon.
The reboot will feature a fresh-faced cast including The Maze Runner star Kaya Scodelario as Claire Redfield, Ant-Man and the Wasp’s Hannah John-Kamen as Jill Valentine, and Robbie Amell from The Flash as Chris Redfield. Johannes Roberts of 47 Meters Down fame is at the helm of the project as well as penning the script, and has recently cast Donal Logue in the iconic role of Chief Irons. The reboot will focus on the events that happened one night in Raccoon City in 1998, and will hold “faithful ties” to the popular video game franchise.
The upcoming reboot was reported to be the first of six movies – following in the footsteps of the original adaptation – but that’s not all for the zombie franchise. Capcom’s survival horror will also be receiving a separate Netflix Original Series, directed by The Walking Dead’s Bronwen Hughes. Supernatural writer Andrew Dabb will be in charge of the script, with Constantin Films producing. It’s an exciting time for fans of the series, combining the anticipated release of Resident Evil Village with these promising live-actions.
The eighth major installment of the video game franchise is expected to release some time in Q3, and we received some detailed screenshots last month. The screenshots revealed a terrifying werewolf which will serve as one of the game’s enemies, as well as atmospheric shots of the titular village.
