Red Dead Online, which was nominated for Best Multiplayer Game at the 2019 Golden Joystick Awards, received generally positive reviews at launch. Some critics praised the game’s co-operative story missions, technical improvements, and battle royale game mode, which has been described as more tense than similar games as a result of the smaller player count and slower playstyle.
Rockstar recently released several updates to Red Dead Online. In October, the developer added a new game mode, Dead of Night, in which players battle zombies. An update in December, which was released at the same time as the standalone client, added new ranks to the role of the bounty hunter, a new Outlaw Pass, and additional items that were made available for purchase.
