Slay The Spire Launches For Android On February 3

Slay the Spire, a roguelike video game developed by MegaCrit and published by Humble Bundle, is finally being launched for Android on February 3. The game, which first released for Microsoft Windows, macOS, and Linux 2019, was launched for PS4 in May 2019, for Nintendo Switch in June 2019, for Xbox One in August 2019 and for iOS in June 2020.

Developed by MegaCrit, with Anthony Giovannetti and Casey Yano as lead developers, the game was inspired by the Netrunner collectible card game, which Giovannetti maintains a community website. In its description, its creators say, “We fused card games and roguelikes together to make the best single player deckbuilder we could. Craft a unique deck, encounter bizarre creatures, discover relics of immense power, and Slay the Spire.”

At the start of the game, each player selects one of four predetermined characters who must work through several levels of a spire as they encounter villains, challenges, and treasures along the way. Each level has several possible encounters that are arranged in a branching structure with a boss character at the end of the level.

Giovannetti, who watched online streamers play the game during early access, credited their feedback with helping to improve the balance of the game, saying, “A streamer isn’t going to be afraid to speak their minds or insult you – they probably don’t even know you’re there most of the time.”

In its review of Slay the Spire, TheGamer wrote, “Slay the Spire encompasses pretty much everything you would expect in a digital trading card game, with its roguelike nature keeping each playthrough relatively fresh and entertaining.” The game was nominated for Best Indie Game and PC Game of the Year at t the 2019 Golden Joystick Awards and Fresh Indie Game at The Game Awards 2019.

Although Humble Games hasn’t revealed how much Slay the Spire will cost when it arrives on the Google Play Store next week, it is currently listed for $9.99 on iOS. Pre-registrations for the game should be available very soon.
