Fans of both Danganronpa and Zero Escape are likely excited that World’s End Club, the long-awaited collaboration between the creators of both series, is now available on Apple Arcade. Pitting a bunch of school kids into the “ultimate child murder game,” there should be a ton of familiar concepts and story elements to players that have dug through the mysteries of Monokuma and time travel. Sadly, it seems the complete story isn’t yet quite done.
For some bizarre reason, the version of World’s End Club that is currently playable contains roughly 10 hours of content and ends on a cliffhanger. While it is included with a subscription to Apple’s mobile game service, it’s still a gigantic bummer that anyone getting invested in this story won’t be able to see the conclusion. For that, they’ll have to wait for the eventual Switch release, which is slated for sometime in 2021.
Kotaro Uchikoshi, the writer for World’s End Club, took to Twitter to give players a warning. He likened the move to something like Avengers: Infinity War and said that the complete version would be coming to Nintendo’s platform next year.
It’s a strange situation because there are different ways to look at this. Normally, customers paying for a game would have the right to complain about a lack of closure. On the other hand, World’s End Club is only available through Apple Arcade and can’t be purchased individually. It seems that whatever exclusivity deal Apple set up has resulted in a cut-down version of what this title will eventually be.
At least when it does arrive on Switch, developer Too Kyo Games is looking at creating a physical edition. Uchikoshi responded to a fan’s inquiry by saying, “The physical version is currently under consideration.” That should ensure that anyone with an aversion to digital titles gets the chance to play this.
For now, just know going in that you won’t be getting the complete experience. The second part of World’s End Club will likely be available on Apple Arcade as well, but it won’t be coming until 2021. I suppose that’s fitting given the subject matter.
