[UPDATE] Sword and Shield’s new Mythical Pokemon is Zarude, a Dark/Grass type. As teased, The Pokemon Company unveiled the new monster as part of its Pokemon Day celebration. While few details about it were revealed, The Pokemon Company confirmed Zarude can’t be found in Sword and Shield through normal gameplay, and its Ability is Leaf Guard, which prevents it from having status conditions when the weather is sunny. The original story follows.
A brand-new Pokemon for Sword and Shield will soon be unveiled. The Pokemon Company had previously announced that it will reveal a new Mythical Pokemon this week on Pokemon Day (February 27), and now we’ve gotten our first glimpse at the monster.
The official Pokemon Twitter account recently shared a silhouette of the mysterious new Pokemon. The tweet doesn’t provide any more details about the monster, but it does tell fans to “stay tuned,” so more information will be revealed before long. You can take a look at the teaser image below.
All we know so far about the new Pokemon is that it will feature in the upcoming Pokemon film, Pokemon the Movie: Coco, which is set to premier in Japan on July 10. The Pokemon Company hasn’t shared any details about the film’s plot, but a brief teaser trailer shows Ash and Pikachu meeting a mysterious jungle boy, who seems to bear a strong resemblance to the above Pokemon.
That isn’t all that’s happening on Pokemon Day this year. A new Max Raid event is slated to kick off in Sword and Shield that day. Niantic will also hold a special Pokemon Day event in Pokemon Go that will bring back Armored Mewtwo and introduce Clone Pokemon to the game, tying into the Netflix release of the most recent Pokemon movie, Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution.
In other Pokemon news, the cloud storage service Pokemon Home recently released on Switch, iOS, and Android devices. Through the service, you can now bring more old Pokemon and Legendaries into Sword and Shield, including other regional forms. You can also receive a couple of free Pokemon just for using Home.
