There’s little confusion about what Bomb Rush Cyberfunk aims to be: a spiritual successor (or very loving homage) to Sega’s stylish Jet Set Radio series.
Developed by indie studio Team Reptile, the maker of Lethal League, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk will let players “dance, paint, trick, face off with the cops and stake your claim to the extrusions and cavities of a sprawling metropolis in an alternate future,” according to its official description on Steam.
Bomb Rush Cyberfunk will also feature the musical stylings of Hideki Naganuma, the composer known for his work on Jet Set Radio and Jet Set Radio Future. So, yeah, someone’s making a new Jet Set Radio-style game since Sega’s not doing it.
A brief teaser trailer for Bomb Rush Cyberfunk shows off the rail-grinding, tagging, and dancing, all with a funky, cel-shaded visual style, that players should expect from the game. The game’s description hints at “personal boostpacks” which will let players, as part of a crew, reach “new heights of graffiti.”
Team Reptile is targeting a 2021 release window for Bomb Rush Cyberfunk.
